We were amazed at this performance that surprised us at all levels. Lydia R. Diamond really delivered from Black Diaspora - an unconventional black family. Portrayal of college education, social dynamics, family relations were delivered in a witty and wonderful way.
Great performances by supporting stars Rosie Benton Condola Rashad. Original Music Alicia Keys.
David Gallo produced a scenic Martha Vineyard glamorous home on stage that complemented the costume design of smart casual black sophisticated look by Reggie Ray. Lighting Design by Beverly Emmons worked on the setting the tone and mood of the play. Excellent direction by Kenny Leon.
The play is performed at Cort Theatre 138 West 48th Street (A Shubert Organization Theatre)
One of the West End’s most celebrated productions, The Mountaintop has been ushered to Broadway by Jean Doumanian
Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions starring Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson as Martin Luther King, Jr., and Academy Award-nominee & Golden Globe-winner Angela Bassett as a motel maid, with original music by Grammy Award-winner
Branford Marsalis and directed by Tony Award-nominee Kenn y Leon (Fences,A Raisin in the Sun). Penned by American playwright Katori Hall, The Mountaintop is a gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., as he retires to Room 306 in the now famous Lorraine Motel in Memphis, after delivering his legendary ‘I've Been to the Mountaintop’ speech to a massive church congregation. When room-service is delivered by a young woman, whose identity we puzzle over, King is forced to confront his past, as well as his legacy to his people. This theatrical event opened on Thursday, October 13, and is now in performance at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th Street.) The Mountaintop received the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Play, marking the first time a female African-American playwright has received the award in its 34-year history.

“The diversity of shows currently on Broadway succeeds in providing something for everyone, so it's no accident that we're having the biggest season in our history and even in the toughest economic times have over a 5% increase in attendance year-over-year," commented Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League. "Great seats to a season that has entertained, inspired and moved our audiences are easy to buy online, by phone, or in person at theatre box offices. Theatregoers can see a Broadway show any night of the week at various curtain times.”
